Brimfield, MA

After hearing tales of the Brimfield Antique Show (MA) for years, a friend from South Africa and I decided to hot-foot it over there, to see what we could unearth. And, oh boy, are we glad we did. Firstly, it is VAST – acres upon acres of dealers spread over several fields. Secondly, having arrived a few days after the fair had opened, some said we may miss the good stuff as the J.CREWTommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren merchandisers would have picked over everything. But this was not quite true as we knew exactly what we were looking for as we traipsed from booth to booth, discerning between trash and treasure. We also managed to spot Nate Berkus – cute as anything in his white T-shirt and jeans. We were tempted to stalk him, but quickly got back on mark. A word of advice, get ready to walk your tuchus off…comfy shoes, rain boots, a rain coat. Also, a sun hat is essential as it can bake down. The dealers are wonderfully eccentric and quite prepared to haggle. One, who had an amazing selection of architectural salvage, immediately poured us gin and tonics in paper cups upon hearing that we were from Africa. Blisssssssssssssssssss…
